Sharni and I meet last year through work, we had a instant connection through our upcoming wedding's and our love for fashion. It wasn't long before we become quite good friends, and now whilst we are supposed to be working, we now spend hours talking about upcoming fashion, bloggers, babies, and of course the weddings. Sharni is very intellectual within her work and her business, anyone who has visited the spaces of Bardot in all Myer department stores would understand her amazing eye for fashion and how to make the store look amazing. This also flows into her business, visible when Sharni sets up for store at the village markets, with a beautiful distinct range of colour shinning from her set up.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and where you live?
My name is Sharni, I am 23 years old and live on the Gold Coast. I recently married my now husband and we are completely enjoying being married. Rico is what you could call my silent business partner. He helped me get Cashem off the ground and has helped me continue with it the past year and a half. I am completely and utterly grateful for him. I also work full time as a Fashion Visual Merchandiser for an amazing women's brand which I am thoroughly enjoying. Between full time work and a small business, I am kept very busy.
You own the brand Cashem Couture, how did you get started with that?
Ever since I was very young I have always wanted to have my own label. I went to university straight after school and studied Business majoring in Event Management. Once I graduated I continued working casually and felt it was the right time to start my own small business. I began with ordering other boutique brands and starting online. I felt we needed to get our business out there and create some awareness so I began attending markets. The Village Markets at Burleigh and Paradise Point is what you could call our second home. We absolutely love the vibe here and the fashion and unique designs that you find are beyond amazing. After one year of stocking other brands we felt it was time to start our own label as I had always planned. I began designing our samples and we sourced fabric which is exclusive to us. This process was lengthy but lots of fun to get creative.
Describe your brand?
Our brand is very suited to the Gold Coast. Our prints are bright, fun and suitable for any age. Our styles are easy to wear and versatile. We are all about having fun with your style.
How did you come up with the name Cashem Couture?
I have two sisters, one older and one younger. The first two letters of each of our names combined create 'Cashem' which is a word that has always been used in our family. It was the perfect name for our label.
Where do your design inspirations come from?
I get inspiration from all over, from people that I see in daily life to the runways abroad. I love Pinterest and Instagram which you can almost always find me on, looking for something that will inspire my next range.
Did you always want to have a label??
It was always a dream and a goal of mine to have my own label with all of my thoughts and ideas expressed through garments. Providing unique pieces like we do and to have shoppers love them is exceptionally rewarding. Even better is seeing people on the street wearing your label..that is the best feeling!
How did you first get interested in fashion and why is it important?
I have to say that fashion was rushing through my veins the day I was born! I was so young and obsessed with fashion and accessories that there can be no other reason. Fashion to me is a way to express your personality. It is a form of art.
Describe your personal style?
My style is not easily described as it is ever changing. One day I will dress very feminine and sleek and the next I will be all about simplicity with an easy white tee and ripped boyfriend jeans. I used to feel totally jealous of the girls who had found their style and had the luxury of knowing what suits them, but now I feel really comfortable with my changing style as I get to dress depending on how I feel that day and express myself through fashion.
Who is your style icon and why?
I look to so many people for style inspiration from profiles that I follow on Instagram to celebrities. I always find myself googling Miranda Kerr when I am stuck for ideas. I love her effortless everyday looks that I feel I can quite easily tweak to suit myself.
Favorite designers and places to shop?
I love Sass and Bide. I work in shopping centres everday and visit Sass and Bide almost every time just to soak up all of that yumminess! A lot of my shopping is done at Kookai, Seed, Bardot and French Connection but I do a lot of purchasing at the markets we attend for those gorgeous one off and unique pieces.
What do you splurge on?
Definitely handbags. My Louis Vuitton and Olivia Harris shoulder bag are my favourites. I use my handbag everyday so they are definitely worth the splurge.
What is your next "must have" purchase?
Chanel espadrilles.
What can't you live without?
..Other than my husband, family and friends and my dog Nala - I couldn't live without my pillow. It's triangle and the perfect height for my neck.
Next place you want to travel to:
The United States and so badly! I can't wait to go to Disneyland and Rodeo Drive (for the shopping and of course because of Pretty Woman). "Big mistake. Big. Huge!" Hehe
Best advice you ever received?
"Comparison is the thief of joy". This is something I absolutely live by! Also quality not quantity.
What is to come from cashem couture this year?
I am currently working on our new range which will be available to shop towards the end of the year. I am looking to take Cashem in a little bit of a different direction and see what our customers really like. I am very excited for the year ahead!
